Luis Buñuel Portolés (1900 – 1983) was a Spanish-born filmmaker and naturalized Mexican who worked mainly in Mexico and France, but also in his native Spain and in the United States. He is considered one of Mexico's finest directors, and one of the most important directors in the history of cinema.

"Chan Chan" is a son composition by Cuban bandleader Compay Segundo, revolving around two central characters, 'Juanica' and 'Chan Chan'. The song was one of Compay's last compositions and was written in 1987. "Chan Chan" was recorded by Segundo himself various times as well as by many other Latin artists. A version of "Chan Chan" with Compay and other Cuban artists Eliades Ochoa and Ibrahim Ferrer is the first song on the album Buena Vista Social Club. This version of "Chan Chan" became a worldwide success and its first four chords are among the most well-known in Cuban music.

This song is also loved by many cities in the caribbean, specially in Cartagena (Colombia)...  Sra. Rubio's hometown.

"El Chavo" (in Mexico, chavo means "kid") is a Mexican television show that has gained a great amount of popularity in Latin America as well as in Spain and other countries. It focuses around the adventures and tribulations of the title character, an orphan, played by the series' creator, Roberto Gómez Bolaños, and other inhabitants of a fictional apartments building, or as called in Mexico, vecindad.
The shows traces back to June 20, 1971. In 1973, El Chavo became a weekly half-hour series. The show was cancelled in 1980, but shorts were still produced from that year until 1992. At its peak of popularity during the mid-1970s, El Chavo, having 350 million viewers worldwide, was the most-watched show in Mexican television. The frequent occurrence of Mexican idiomatic expressions makes El Chavo very hard to translate into other languages.

Federico García Lorca (1898 – 1936) was a Spanish poet and dramatist, also remembered as a painter, pianist, and composer. An emblematic member of the Generation of '27, he was murdered by members of the fascist group Falange at the beginning of the Spanish Civil War. A Spanish judge (Baltasar Garzon) has opened an investigation of Garcia Lorca's death, among the many others executed and disappeared, as a crime against humanity during the Spanish Civil War and the Franco years.
